February 24 - Red Top Mountain 5/47

I browsed my spreadsheet of parks and decided to head to one that was fairly close and I hadn't gone to yet. After the drive there, I had to squint hard at the listed travel time for it cause it was damn closer to 3+ hours than the 2.5 I had listed. Sadly, it was through the worst neighborhoods of mcmansions and conspicuous consumption that just absolutely chilled me to the bone. The park however is super cool.

Red Top Mountain SP is a decent size with several hiking trails of differing lengths and difficulties to try out. AND THEY HAVE PATCHES FOR EACH TRAIL. (Bemoaning the rapidly diminishing real estate on my backpack, I decided to not buy those and just got the usual park patch.)

I did well here, hiking every trail they had but the Iron Hill trail (isn't that an awesome name?) and the Campground trail. A good portion of the trails were underwater due to the flooding from all this rain we've been getting for months now. But I had my new waterproof hiking shoes and lemme tell ya... that was awesome. I could just wade through with a smile knowing my socks and feet would stay dry.

Good number of people at the park but, due to it's proximity to Atlanta and it being the first bit of okay weather in some time, I wasn't surprised.

I really liked Red Top and hope to go back soon!
