I started getting seriously sick again in February, so things slowed down a lot. Weather was real bad too, staying cold and rainy nearly constantly.
I did manage to get myself out to Fort Yargo SP, one of the parks closest to where I live (one I'd set aside for "need a park, can't drive far". I felt a serious sense of dismay as I finally got to the place and there was a huge sign on the entrance that said all trails were closed due to a race. I'd barely managed to drive out there and this was a huge let down, but I figured I could tool around the old fort and it'd be fine.
The fort itself is nothing more than a two story log cabin, but still neat to see. The signs mentioned that 50 some odd people would secure themselves inside during raids, but I find it hard to believe. They had to have been packed in there like sardines. I'm not sure if it ever saw use.
When I parked, I noticed a cyclist getting ready to head out to the trails. (If you do mountain biking, Yargo is the place to be.) I asked about the closure and he said it was over at noon. Glad I stuck around as it was just then noon!
I headed out on a trail, once I found it, and met a father and daughter who were out there to search for geocaches. What a really cool hobby!
I waffled about walking the 7 mile lake trail, but there really aren't any other options. I got about 1/4 of the way and decided the smart thing to do would be to turn around and head back. It's okay though, I surprised myself a year ago or so by walking the whole thing, so I wasn't too annoyed with myself.
